About Us

The local expression of the Church is wherever believers gather for worship, prayer, fellowship, and the teaching of God’s Word; observe baptism and communion as established by Jesus Christ; and serve others with their God-given talents and gifts. The Church is called to work together in love and unity to make disciples for the ultimate purpose of glorifying God.

Romans 12:4-5; Hebrews 10:24-25

Our Mission

Love Jesus, Live in Community, Share the Gospel

Akron Community Church (previously Akron Church of the Brethren) has been a part of the local community since the early 1900s. We believe the Bible is the word of God, and our mission is simple: To LOVE Jesus Christ with our whole heart. To LIVE our lives in community, upholding the infallible Word of God. And to SHARE the saving power of grace that only Jesus Christ gives. If you are searching for a church home, we'd like you to know that there's a special place here just for you!

WHO WE ARE

A Place of Worship

The primary reason we meet together is to focus our attention on God, giving Him our worship and receiving His blessing and inspiration. Each of these occasions is a special time of spiritual refreshment.

A Place for Learning

To us, studying the Bible is vital because it not only instructs us intellectually, but also guides us spiritually. We believe it and accept it as God's Word to us, a Book that is alive and relevant to life today. Learning its truths is a thrilling adventure.

A Place for Enrichment

For every person at every age level we offer a wealth of opportunities - special programs and ministries for children, youth, and adults which fill the church calendar. You can be sure that in this kaleidoscope of activities there's more than one place where you can be personally enriched.

A Place for Friendship

Nothing quite compares to the joy of Christian friendship. That's why we make it a priority to build lasting bonds between the members of our church family - bonds of concern, accountability and genuine commitment to one another. We believe that life is meant to be lived with others in community. "The Church is called to work together in love and unity to make disciples for the ultimate purpose of glorifying God."

A Place for Service

Just as Jesus Christ came "not to be ministered unto, but to minister..." we accept our responsibility to reach out in service to others. This applies both within the church family and outside our fellowship. We serve our local community with various weekly outreach programs, and offer opportunities to serve others abroad through missions trips and work camps.

OUR FOUNDATION

What We Believe

  • God

We believe there is one true, holy God, eternally existing in three equal persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is infinite, unchangeable, just, and loving. We believe in the personality of the Holy Spirit as convicting, as indwelling and as revealing God. Believers receive the gift of the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation, helping them live a life of Christ-like character.

  • The Bible

We believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God. These writings are without error and the final authority on all matters of faith and how it is lived out. The Bible is the sole basis of our beliefs.

  • Salvation

We believe in the sin-pardoning value of the atonement offered through Jesus Christ. We believe that by accepting Jesus Christ into our hearts and believing in his resurrection we have life eternally.

  • Baptism

We believe in “believer’s baptism," the practice of baptizing those who are able to make a conscious profession of faith, as opposed to the practice of baptizing infants.
